UDHAMPUR, Dec 22: Fire and Emergency Services Department (Fire Brigade) started its operation in remote Latti Tehsil of Dudu Sub Division in district Udhampur today.
Official sources said that a Fire tender with a staff of six Firemen including driver and a Fire Station Officer arrived Latti Tehsil headquarters last evening. The entire team of Fire & Emergency Services organization led by Fire Officer -Tilak Raj was accorded warm welcome by the Tehil Administration led by Tehsildar Ashok Chakravarty, Naib Tehsildar Kuldip Raj Sharma, former Sarpanchs Kasturi Lal Gupta & Beant Gupta, Beopar Mandal president -Yousaf Naik, members of Latti Development Committee led by Chairman Krishan Lal Gupta and other prominent persons of the area.
The local Administration and Panchayat and LDC members made arrangement for their comfortable stay. They have been temporarily been accommodated in the building of Govt Middle School Bandole (Latti) for two weeks and will be shifted to the nearby Disaster Management building shortly.
A big Fire tender given to the area has the capacity of 7500 litres. The water intake points at Latti Pul, about 1-5 kms away, Pundal water point 500 mts away and local PHE water point behind Diamond hotel within 200 mts distance are available. The second such vehicle with five crew members has been deployed temporarily at Dudu town.
This was an old and most popular demand of the local people from Dudu Sub Division as scores of houses and shops were burnt in major fire incidents in the area during last two decades. The local people extended gratitude to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, local MP Dr Jitendra Singh and Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur.
Assistant Director, F&E Services Udhampur-Reasi, Sarvesh Langar said that these are the temporary stations opened at Latti and Dudu towns as there was strong demand of the local people. Till the full fledged station is sanctioned there, this arrangement will go on at least for this winter, the AD added.
It is pertinent to mention here that from Chenani to Basantgarh there wasn’t any Fire Station within 100 kms of distance earlier.
