School girl falls to death

POONCH, May 17:  A little girl and student of class 2nd  fell down from a temporary bridge made up of single long log of wood (Shehteer) over a nallah and died on the spot.
A police spokesman said that mishap took place at around 2 pm today, when 6-year-old  Najma Bano, D/o Mohd Ashraf, resident of Arai (Mandi), was returning home from her school. Several other children of the village were also accompanying her. The children had to cross over a long wooden plank made as make-shift bridge over a nallah. As the girl was crossing over this wooden ‘shehteer’, she slipped down and started flowing down. She also received multiple injuries.
The other senior school children and people noticed her and rushed for rescue. They removed the girl to Sub District Hospital Mandi, where doctors declared her as dead. The body after completion of legal formalities was handed over by police to the family. The residents of the area expressed deep shock over the incident and demanded that a safe on-foot bridge be constructed over this nallah so that no more such incidents take place in future.
