Protests against death of prisoner

SRINAGAR, May 17: A prisoner who was lodged in Central jail Srinagar died in hospital in Srinagar after he was shifted there yesterday.
A police spokesman said the prisoner, Mushtaq Ahmad Gilkar son of Ali Mohammad Gilkar of Kolipora, Khanyar, was lodged in Central jail under FIR number 23/09 under Section 8/20 NDPS act.
The spokesman said that Gilkar fell ill and was rushed to Rainawari Hospital, but he died there. “Police has taken cognizance of the matter,” the spokesman siad.
However, the family of the deceased alleges that he had torture remarks on the body. “Police is lying that my brother died of heart attack. But the truth is that he had a scuffle with jailer last night and he was beaten ruthlessly by the security men inside the jail,” the family alleged.
The family members have blocked the main road in Khanyar and protested against police.
