Srinagar, May 17: Police today arrested an Indian Reserve Police man on charges of rape of a girl who died in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district last night.
Police fired teargas to disperse a group of people who were protesting the death of the girl due to medical complications after allegedly raped by the IRP man, Zahoor Hussain last night.
The angry protesters said that the girl had come to her brother-in-law’s home at Aadipora in Kunzer area of Baramulla district. “She was raped by Zahoor Hussain of IR 13th battalion of IRP. She developed medical complications and later died in a hospital,” the protesters alleged.
The IRP man was posted at Baiwah in Kunzar to guard minority community. Police, however, claimed that the girl committed suicide.
Police sources said the deceased and the accused constable were caught in a compromising position by her brother-in-law at Aadipora last night. “After being caught, the girl raised alarm that the constable raped her. She later consumed poison and was taken to a hospital, but she died at 3 a.m.,” sources said.
A police spokesman said that an FIR No. 24/2014 under Section 457,376,511 and 306 RPC has been registered against the accused constable and the constable has been arrested.
“Zahoor Hussain of IR 13th Bn posted at Baiwah Kunzar, Baramulla, was found unauthorisedly loitering near the house of Farooq Ahmad Dar in Aadipora, Tangmarg late last night. The said constable had an altercation with Farooq Ahmad Dar,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the girl had reportedly called the said constable to Aadipora and she objected to the altercation between her brother-in-law Farooq Ahmad Dar and Zahoor Hussain.
“She reportedly consumed some poison and was rushed to a nearby hospital where from she was shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for treatment. The doctors declared her brought dead,” the spokesman said.
