Srinagar, May 17: Army today recovered three solar missiles from Hafrada forests in North Kashmir’s Handwara area of district Kupwara.
An Army official said that a patrol party of 6 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army located three sophisticated solar missiles from the dense forest of Hafrada with the help of sniffer dogs.
“These solar missiles are self-charging and are capable of destroying any sensitive installation. The weapons are lethal and dangerous because they can be charged using solar energy”, the official said.
The official said that militants might have dumped these projectiles to carry out a major strike in the area.
The official said that each missile has a weight of about 5 to 6 kilogrammes and is lighter than an AK 47 assault rifle. “Each missile is around four feet in length. A solar-activated missile is a highly sophisticated weapon. It can be fixed at any place. Its range can be set and the person who plants it can flee before it is fired,” the official said. He said that the missile gets activated with sunlight and hits the target.
