JAMMU, Dec 24: In a major breakthrough, Jammu police have cracked a high-profile case involving the forgery of a court order, resulting in the arrest of an advocate identified as the main conspirator.
The case, registered as FIR Number 142/2024 under sections 318(4), 338, 336(3), and 340(2) of the BNS at Police Station Janipur, was initiated following a complaint from the 3rd Additional Munsiff, JMIC Jammu, submitted through the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jammu, on December 19, 2024.
The complaint alleged the use of a fake court order, forged stamps, and fraudulent signatures of a judge to illegally release a seized vehicle-a Tipper bearing registration number JK02CT-6827-impounded in connection with a mining case. Additionally, a counterfeit Government Receipt for Rs 50,000 was discovered as part of the forgery. The complainant also requested the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the probe.
Responding swiftly, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, constituted an SIT, which worked diligently to gather evidence. The team retrieved the forged releasing order and the fake G R receipt, which played a critical role in solving the case.
Following an in-depth investigation, the SIT identified and apprehended Advocate Basharat Ahmed Khan, son of Mohd Bashir, a resident of Asrarabad (Sidhra, Jammu). Khan was revealed to be the mastermind behind the forgery and is currently in custody at Police Station Nagrota.
A search of the accused’s residence, conducted under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate, led to the recovery of crucial evidence, including the mobile phone used to prepare the fake documents. Other electronic devices such as a computer and printer were also seized, along with the fraudulent G R receipt used in the transaction.
The investigation is ongoing, with further recoveries and arrests anticipated.
