JAMMU, Dec 24: Department of Pediatric Surgery at Government Medical College Jammu, has achieved yet another milestone by performing advanced laparoscopic procedure that place it among the few leading tertiary care centres in India.
A 2 year-old boy, who had recurrent abdominal pain, was diagnosed with choledochal cyst with a complex variation. The child underwent total laparoscopic choledochal cyst excision with hepatico-duodenostomy, a highly advanced surgical procedure.
The surgery was skillfully conducted by a team of surgeons led by Dr Saalim Nazki, HoD Pediatric Surgery, assisted by Dr Divyanshu (Postgraduate). The anaesthesia team, including consultants Dr Ashufta Qazi and Dr Isha Gupta, provided vital preoperative support. Postoperatively, the child was closely monitored in the Pediatric ICU and was discharged on postoperative day six in excellent condition.
Reflecting on the achievement, Dr Saalim Nazki highlighted that such advanced procedures are performed only in a handful of tertiary centers across India. This procedure is performed laparoscopically for the first time in Jammu city.
He also emphasized the Department’s consistent efforts to bring cutting-edge surgical care to patients. He said apart from this landmark case, the Department has successfully carried out many other advanced laparoscopic procedures in the children, including Pyeloplasties, Tumor excisions, Fundoplications, Nephrectomies, Laparoscopic pull-through procedures, Cystoscopic and Thoracoscopic procedures to name few.
The Department also routinely performs essential laparoscopic surgeries such as cholecystectomies, orchidopexy, appendicectomies, and various other procedures with great success.
Dr Nazki reiterated the importance of these advanced procedures like minimal invasive surgeries in modern medical science. By performing such surgeries locally, the Department ensures that patients no longer need to seek treatment outside the state for high-standard, cutting-edge modalities.
