VDGs open firing in Kuntwara

JAMMU, Dec 24: Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Kuntwara and surrounding areas of Kishtwar district early this morning after the Village Defence Guards (VDGs) observed suspicious movement in the area late last night.

The VDGs reportedly fired a few shots after they detected suspicious movement at village Kayi in Kuntwara area of the district.
Subsequently, security forces and police were mobilized, and a cordon-and-search operation was launched, the sources said.
The incident occurred in the same area where, on November 7, two VDG members were martyred by the terrorists.
Army, paramilitary forces, police, SOG and VDGs have launched massive search operations in Kayi and surrounding villages. However, no further movement was observed till late tonight when the reports last came in.
