Police foils kidnapping bid, cop injured

JAMMU, May 18: Police foiled a kidnapping bid while a constable received injuries in the incident in Channi Himmat area.
A police spokesman said that, during the intervening night of May 17-18, three motorcycle-borne miscreants forced Darshan Lal, son Girdhari Lal of Malik Market, Channi who was returning home from Raya Morh where he operates a dhaba, to sit with them on their motorcycle near Nissan showroom,” he said.
After watching a motorcycle with four persons, the police team at stadium square check-post tried to stop them but they fled away. The check-post team immediately alerted the police bike patrol party which started chasing the bike, he added.
The police party finally intercepted the bike and rescued Darshan Lal from the clutches of the unidentified kidnappers, he said, adding, however, the kidnappers attacked the police party with sticks they were carrying. As a result, Constable Ali Hussain of police station Channi Himmat sustained major fractures on his left arm, he said.
The miscreants managed to escape, he said, adding a search operation has been launched to nab them.
A case under FIR number 50/14 under Section 341,382,323,364,353 and 332 RPC has been registered at police station Channi Himmat with regard to this incident.
It may be mentioned that a total of 80 motor cycles and 160 police personnel have been deployed for night hours in District Jammu as part of the strategy to prevent burglaries and other night time crimes.
