“There has been a lot of damage, amounting to crores of rupees. We are thankful to the Fire and Emergency Services Department,” a resident said.
A distraught house owner expressed his despair, saying, “Nothing is left. I had borrowed money for surgery, but that too is gone. Nothing remains.”
MLA Hazratbal, Salman Sagar, visited the site and assured the affected residents that he would seek special relief from the Government. “The normal relief for these people will be insufficient as the houses have been completely destroyed. I will request the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for a special package and urge the Deputy Commissioner to arrange temporary accommodations for them,” he said.
