Srinagar, Jan 7: Police today arrested a married couple involved in drug peddling from Srinagar, along with six others from Kulgam, Ganderbal, and Pulwama.
As per authorities, a team from the M.R. Gunj Police Station, during a routine naka checking at Syed Mansoor Zaldagar, stopped an auto bearing registration number JK01H-9826.
The individuals on board have been identified as Waseem Bashir Sheikh (driver), son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, and Uzma Waseem (passenger), wife of Waseem Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Hamdania Colony Bemina.
“During the search, a substantial quantity of narcotic substances was recovered from their possession,” police said.
In this connection, a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered in PS M.R. Ganj, and further investigation initiated.
In Kulgam, a team from Police Post Mirbazar, during patrolling at Furrah, arrested a drug peddler identified as Shahid Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Furrah.
During the search, 1.30 kg of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 05/2025 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and investigation initiated.
Moreover, on January 3, a police team from police station Zadibal, at a checkpoint established at Sazgaripora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, son of Ghulam Ahmad, resident of Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal.
“During the search, officers recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances and Rs 3,020 from his possession. Accordingly, a case under the NDPS Act was registered in PS Zadibal.”
During further investigation, police said, two more individuals identified as Waqar Ahmad Duloo alias Koter, son of Late Mohammad Rafiq Dulloo, resident of Govt. Housing Colony Ellahi Bagh Srinagar, and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo, son of Ali Mohammad Pattoo, resident of Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar, were arrested along with a substantial quantity of contraband substances.
A police unit from Police Station Lar, at a checkpoint established at Benhama Lar, arrested a drug peddler identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Jabar Mir, resident of Benhama Lar, with 3.81 kg of bhang patri and 32 grams of charas.
In Pulwama, a naka party from Police Post Newa intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle bearing registration number JK13B-0980, driven by Hilal Ahmed Wani, son of Sonaullah Wani, resident of Zadoora.
“During the search, a nylon sack containing 12.650 kg of charas powder was recovered. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.”
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations taken up.
