JAMMU, Jan 8: Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Mahajan today inaugurated a national road awareness cum health check-up camp for drivers and conductors at Mini Bus Operators Union Office, Maheshpura Chowk, Jammu. The Camp was organized by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Jammu, in collaboration with the Health Department and the Mini Bus Union Jammu.
During the Camp, more than 270 drivers and conductors participated and availed the facilities like eye check-up for colour- blindness, defect in eye sight, tests to check Blood Pressure, Diabets, HB etc. Transport Commissioner was the chief guest on the occasion along with Pankaj Bhagotra RTO, Rehana Tabassum ARTO and team of MVD.
Speaking on the occasion, Transport Commissioner informed the participants that the aim of organizing such medical camps is to spread awareness among drivers about significance of personal health and hygiene for welfare of society.
In his first address on road safety month, Transport Commissioner emphasized the importance of adopting safe and responsible driving habits especially among passenger vehicle drivers and conductors and urged upon the drivers to avoid risky behaviours such as drunken driving, using mobile phones and over speeding while driving.
Vishesh Mahajan also informed that the Department would take up the matter with oil companies to ensure that violators—such as riders without helmets, drivers without seat belts, or those breaching traffic laws are denied fuel at petrol pumps. He also sought active participations of drivers and transport unions to achieve the goal.
Earlier Regional Transport officer Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra also spoke in length about road safety awareness and reinforced the commitment of all stakeholders to ensuring a safer and healthier environment for the transport sector in the district.
Karan Singh Wazir (Chairman AJKTWA) emphasized that such initiatives are much needed as the society needs to be made aware not just about road safety but also about the anti-drug movement.
