SRINAGAR, Jan 8: The night temperature plummeted across Kashmir a day after the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded above freezing.
The tourist destinations of Gulmarg recorded -9.8°C, Pahalgam -8.2°C, and Sonamarg registered -10.4°C temperature today.
The ski resort of Gulmarg slipped down to a low of -9.0°C against the -6.6°C recorded the previous night. This was -20°C below normal for the tourist resort.
Pahalgam recorded a low of -8.2°C against the -7.8°C on Tuesday. This was 2.0°C below normal for the tourist spot.
The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday also plunged to a low of -10.4°C at the picturesque Sonamarg.
Srinagar witnessed a low of -1.0°C against the previous night at 0.9°C, and this was 0.9°C above the average for the place during the period.
The day temperature rose as the bright Sun appeared on Tuesday in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley, with the capital city recording a maximum of 8.6°C, which was 2.0°C above normal for the day.
Kashmir had a low of -2.1°C, the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir -1.9°C, and Qazigund 2.4°C recorded today.
A Meteorological Department official said that weather will generally remain dry between 8th-10th Jan with cloudiness during 10th evening/night.
“There will be generally cloudy with light rain (plains of Jammu) snow at isolated higher reaches of Jammu division and Kashmir division on January 11”, he said.
“Generally dry weather will prevail between January 12 and 14th January and generally cloudy with light snow at isolated to scattered places between 15-16th January”, he added.
