Kashmiri students face difficulties due to lack of MCI test Centre

SRINAGAR, Jan 9: Kashmiri medical graduates continue to face challenges due to the absence of a local examination Centre for the Medical Council of India (MCI) screening test, forcing them to endure high costs and logistical difficulties associated with travelling outside the Valley.
The MCI screening test is mandatory for medical graduates who have studied at foreign institutions and wish to practice medicine or pursue higher education in India. Currently, examination Centres are available in Samba, Amritsar and Noida, but none exist in Kashmir.
Students said that the lack of a local Centre imposes an undue financial burden on their families. “Travelling to Amritsar or Noida for the exam costs a fortune. Our parents have to spend on airfare, hotels and other expenses, which is unfair when there are thousands of us in Kashmir,” a Medical graduate from Srinagar said.
The demand for a local MCI screening test Centre continues to grow, with both students and parents urging authorities to address this pressing issue. “We hope the government and the MCI understand our plight and set up a Centre in Kashmir as soon as possible,” a parent said.
