SRINAGAR, Jan 10: In a major success against drug trafficking, police have arrested five drug peddlers in Jammu Kashmir’s Anantnag district and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Police on Friday said that during a routine check at Halmulla Sangam, a vehicle was intercepted, and upon inspection, 21 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from three individuals.
They have been identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Kuchmulla Tral; Mohd Altaf Sheikh, of Kanihama Nowgam, Srinagar; and Mohd Haroon Parry of Charsoo, Awantipora.
All three accused were arrested on the spot, and the contraband, along with the vehicle, was also seized.
In another operation, a truck belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company, Srinagar, was stopped for inspection at Jablipora National Highway near Fruit Mandi. The search led to the recovery of 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate.
The truck driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, both residents of Bahoo, Awantipora, were arrested. The truck was seized, and a case has been registered.
