Police arrest 8 drug peddlers in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 12: At least eight drug peddlers were arrested in Kashmir today and contraband substances have been recovered from them.
Authorities said that a police party from the Chandoosa Police Station, headed by the SHO, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Shaban Maray, son of the late Gh Mohd, a resident of Dudbugh, at a checkpoint established at Thanda Kasi, Chandoosa.
“During the search, 56 grams of charas was recovered from his possession,” police said.
Similarly, a police party from the Boniyar Police Station, headed by the SHO, intercepted two persons at a checkpoint established at Limber, Boniyar.
They were identified as Mehraj Ahmad Najar, son of late Fateh Najar, a resident of Limber, and Shabir Ahmad Bakerwal, son of Wazir Mohd, a resident of Babagail, Limber.
“During the search, 88 grams of charas was recovered from their possession,” police said.
Further, a police party from the Babareshi Police Post, at a checkpoint established at Babareshi Crossing, intercepted two persons.
During the search, 85 grams of charas was recovered from their possession.
“They have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Magray and Dawood Ahmad Magray, sons of Gh Rasool Magray, both residents of Dudbugh,” police said.
In Sopore, a drug peddler identified as Majid Ashraf Khan, son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan, a resident of Pethseer, Sopore, was arrested.
“During the search, 110 banned tablets (Alprazolam) were recovered from his possession,” police said.
“All the accused have been arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations. Investigations have been initiated.”
In the meantime, Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A specific naka was established by the Police team of Police Station Qaimoh at Gufbal, Qaimoh and during checking two persons roaming in suspicious condition were intercepted. During search, 2 kgs of grinded cannabis and 200 grams of charas were recovered from their possession.
They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Ganie son of Jaleel Ahmad Ganie and Arif Ahmad Ganie son of Sanaullah Ganie, both residents of Qaimoh. They have been arrested and a case vide FIR No 03/2025 under NDPS act has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
