JAMMU, May 24: Welcoming the initiative of new Union Government headed by Narendra Modi which is assuming office on Monday, Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) has expressed the hope that Mr Modi will review the rehabilitation package announced by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in 2008 by preparing a blue print for the same first.
It is unfortunate that the KPs are living in exile in their own country for past 25 years and Indian democracy has failed to protect them, YAIKS president R K Bhat told reporters here, today.
He said no efforts were made by the successive Governments for the return of the community except hollow promises.
“We want to make it clear that the displaced community from Kashmir valley will never forgo its claim on Kashmir as the KPs are integral part of Kashmir”, said Mr Bhat. He added that his organization has already played an important role to maintain composite culture in Valley by sending the youngsters to serve there.
He said YAIKS has been cooperative with both State and Central Governments in this regard and so far over 15,000 youth have already shown their willingness to serve in the Valley. So it is high time for the Government, and all those who matter in Kashmir politics to safeguard the community youth who have shown their willingness to serve in the Valley and play their positive role in maintaining pluralistic and composite culture of the Valley, he added.
Bhat said that the PM’s package has many flaws which needed to be removed and the Government should discuss the return package with the genuine KP representatives in general and youth in particular.
He said that rights of the community be restored fully and recruitment process be first started on previously announced 9000 posts pending with the Government. Besides, the community be accorded minority status as already recommended by National Commission on Minorities.
Bhat also cautioned the Government that saboteurs may create trouble in Valley on the eve of Pak PM’s visit to Delhi to participate in swearing in ceremony to show their existence. He also warned the political parties not to make the community a scapegoat for their political interests.
Sunil Koul vice president YAIKS, Manoj Handoo its general secretary, Sanjay Ganjoo, Deepak Koul, Ajay Kumar and D N Bhat were also present in the press conference.
