Sir,
It is a matter of concern that Jammu known for its clean surroundings, forests and vegetations is fast turning into a smoke chamber on roads coupled with noise pollution of pressure horns. Most of the vehicles like trucks, matadors, load carrier tempos and even scooters and bikes are seen running on congested Jammu roads with engines not tuned periodically resulting in the emission of harmful excessive smoke which makes breathing for pedestrians and even motorists following such vehicles very difficult. There are no vehicle emission tests conducted on the roads by the traffic personnel resulting in the city slowly turning into a polluted city. The problems get complicated when ear piercing pressure horns are willfully used on roads by buses, trucks and even motor cycles.
Emission standards as prescribed by the regulatory authorities of the Government need to be strictly implemented to save our roads from becoming gas chambers in the years to come. Health standards are willfully violated with impunity by certain reckless owners of such vehicles which emit excessive smoke full of harmful chemicals and gases. In the absence of the check devices, a cursory look of a vehicle running on roads even on gentle gear number emitting excessive smoke can be spotted and the owner, the driver booked legally / fined / vehicle impounded.
Yours etc….
Neelam Mahajan
