Modi-Sharif meet will cement friendly ties between India, Pak: Bedi

JAMMU, May 27: First woman IPS officer of India, social activist and Team Anna member Dr Kiran Bedi today said that the first meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart in Pakistan Nawaz Sharif will be helpful in cementing the friendly ties between the India and Pakistan and will go a long way in smoothening relations between the two strained neighbours.
In an exclusive interview with the Excelsior here today, Dr Bedi said Modi is a real statesman and a capable person and will raise the issue of ceasefire violations along Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) with Nawaz Sharief very effectively so as to put an end on such violations by Pakistan.
“To control terror incidents is a big deal but I think that Modi, who is having far-sighted vision will discuss effective measures with his counterpart Nawaz Sharief to curb the roots of the terror in the nation”, she added.
When asked about the newly sworn-in Ministers, Dr Bedi said Modi has inducted only those Ministers in his Union Cabinet, who are aggressive and would work with sincerity and dedication to resolve the issues of the peoples especially the down trodden people.
New BJP-led Government would work sincerely in solving the long pending issues of the people as the track record of Modi is a testimony that he is a hard worker and lives up to his promises, she added.
“We can now hope that the centrally sponsored schemes would be implemented properly, law and order would be maintained, employment will be generated, education will be available for one and all, women safety measures revamped, reforms introduced in agriculture and allied sectors and all these benefits percolate down to the deserving lot”, Dr Bedi said.
“People’s aspirations and sincere working of Modi and his team of Ministers will surely bring a new era of development in the nation, for which crores of people voted for Modi”, she added.
Dr Kiran Bedi, who has been heaping praise on Modi has hinted of joining politics as when asked that whether she will be BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate from Delhi if fresh Assembly elections are held there, she said “I am ready to be BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate from Delhi as the people of Delhi need a Gujarat model”.
“If they (BJP) ask me then I will accept it. Earlier I was not desired to be in politics, but now I want to be in politics so that I can work to realize the dreams of the people”, she added.
“Aao Milke Desh Ko Strong Banae Apna Sabh Kuch Deke (let us make the country strong by sacrificing whatever we have)”, she said while expressing his desire to work for the people and to realize their dreams.
Dr Bedi, who was part of core team of Anna Hazare during his agitation for a strong Lokpal legislation, has openly been hailing Modi’s leadership saying he could lead the country effectively.
On Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, Dr Kiran Bedi said “he is wise enough to take decisions”.
However, Dr Bedi refused to comment on the issues pertaining to J&K by saying that “J&K is a different State and she didn’t want to comment on them”.
