UDHAMPUR, May 29: A book on Indian Peace Keeping UN Mission Gaza 1956-67 was released by GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra at the Command Headquarters here the other day.
The book highlights the contribution of  Indian Army soldiers while being on one of the first Armed mission of United Nations Peace Keeping organization, in which 10 countries namely Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Norway, Sweden, Yugoslavia  and India participated.
The mission commenced in November 1956 and was withdrawn in May 1967. A total of 11 Infantry battalions with contingents of  Military Police, Signals, Medical and other Administrative units participated in the mission. Important Military officers in the mission like the UNEF Commanders Colonel (Later Major General), Indarjit Rikhye, Maj Gen P S Gyani, Lt Col Onkar Deva CO 3 PARA and Capt Om Parkash Chachra, Independent Provost Section Commander earned a lot of appreciation for their special contribution in the mission.
In his book, Col J K Singh  unfolds the history of a united effort of the world to make the world free of violence. The UNEF maintained peace in the region for 11 long years in a highly strife torn area with commendable results. The author has carried indepth  research on the mission and has compiled the book with a number of patriotic visuals.
