JAMMU, May 29: A number of deputations from different parts of Old Jammu city called on Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra here today and projected developmental demands of their respective area.
The deputations from Municipal Ward number 1, 2, 3, 7, 11 etc apprised the Chairman about their demands mainly related to repair and renovation of lanes, better sanitation, installation/repair of high mast lights, provision for regular garbage lifting and replacement of old water pipes.
They also demanded beautification of their areas, particularly open spaces by developing parks, laying of flooring tiles and installation of fountains
Mr. Malhotra asked the concerned officers to make every effort to redress the grievances of the city residents. To improve sanitation, the JMC was directed to deploy additional safaikaramcharies besides putting up dust bins in interior parts of the Jammu city. He also directed the JMC to launch special sanitation drive in the old city areas to ensure proper cleanliness.
Instructions were also given to the concerned to install sanctioned water coolers especially near schools and prominent places. “JMC should also ensure immediate repair of the defunct water coolers in the city”, he directed.
A deputation from Gummat demanded shifting of Fish Market from the area. Mr. Malhotra assured them that their demand would be given due consideration.
The Chairman, Legislative Council directed the concerned officers to look into all these issues and initiate action for early redressal.
Earlier, Chairman also chaired a meeting of officers from Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), National Building Construction Company (NBCC), Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), PHE, PDD to review development works being executed in Jammu city. The Chairman gave specific instructions to all the concerned agencies to gear up men and machinery for early completion of development works.
Commissioner JMC and CEO, ERA besides senior officers from various departments were also present on the occasion.
