NIA submits chargesheet in Mahabodhi temple serial blast case

PATNA, May 30: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today submitted chargesheet in the special court here in connection with serial bomb blasts case of Mahabodhi temple at Bodhgaya in Bihar.

The NIA submitted chargesheet in the case in the court of special judge Anil Kumar Singh under sections 120 B, 163 A, 307 of Indian Penal Code besides section 3/4 of Explosives Substances Act and 16, 17, 18, 18 A, 18 B, 19, 20 and 23 of Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act. Chargesheet was submitted against the incarcerated accused Umar Siddiqui, Azharuddin Quraishi, Imtyaj Ansari and Tirique Ansari (dead).

The investigation is pending against other accused– Haider Ali, Muzibullah, Noman and Taufique Ansari.

On July 7, 2013 serial bomb blasts were engineered in the prime holy place of Mahabodhi Temple at Bodhgaya in Gaya district of Bihar. The worship place is well known as Mahabodhi temple where Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment.

The accused Imtiyaz Ansari was arrested at Patna Junction Railway station during the serial bomb blasts at Gandhi Maidan of Patna. The accused Tarique Ansari was badly injured at Patna junction and later died on the day when serial blasts were engineered in Gandhi Maidan during Hoonkar rally of BJP on October 27.

The NIA submitted chargesheet in the case on the basis of some messages and letters. (UNI)
