WASHINGTON, May 31:
To freeze out ties with India, US President Barrack Obama is sending a top diplomat to Delhi next week.
The three-day visit of Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal from June 6 coincides with the scheduled meetings of Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Assistant Secretary Biswal will travel June 6-9 to New Delhi, where she will meet with a range of officials in the new Modi Government to review the full scope of bilateral and regional issues”, the State Department said in a statement. While in New Delhi, Assistant Secretary Biswal will also meet with key strategic thinkers and business leaders, the statement added.
Ms Biswal’s would be ‘the first visit to India by a senior State Department official since India’s national elections this spring’, the State Department pointed out. Before arriving in India, Ms Biswal will spend three days in Beijing holding a wide range of discussions on economic engagement and opportunities for regional trade linkages along the New Silk Road and the Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor.
