Srinagar, May 31: Legal Metrology officials have slapped a fine of Rs 12,000 on a walnut factory in Srinagar for violating packaged commodities rules and booked a Jammu-based roller mill.
An official statement said the field executives of the department during a routine inspection of markets of Batamallo, Barbar Shah, Munwarabad etc., booked a number of erring traders for violating Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules,2011.
In Barbar Shah, a large stock of one kilogram of walnuts in pre-packed form were seized as the label of maximum retail price on them was erased and in absence of the declaration of price the retailers are selling them at the price of their discretion.
A fine of Rs 12,000 was slapped on the one factory and the other factory owner has requested for adjournment of the challan case for some days, the statement said.
It said a Jammu-based roller mill was also booked for supplying under-weight rice bags to the Valley for selling 300g lesser in weight in 20 kg.
