JAMMU, May 31: Refugees United Front, an amalgam of displaced persons of 1947 from PoK headed by Rajiv Chuni, displaced persons of 1965, 71, camp and non camp from Chhamb headed by Capt (retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib and West Pakistan Refugees headed by Labha Ram Gandhi today asked the Congress- National Conference (NC) alliance to immediately redress the issue of refugees pending for last 67 years before the Government.
Talking to reporters here today the Front leaders accused the NC -Congress coalition of wasting five and half years by making hollow promises and not keeping commitments made with the refugees from time to time.
Mr Chuni said that a proposal has already been submitted to the Chief Secretary on December 24, 2013 for further placing before the Cabinet but for last six months the coalition has not deemed it proper to approve the proposal and send it to the Central Government for sanction.
In the proposal, Government on constant demand of refugees has proposed constitution of Apex Committee for different categories of  PoK refugees, sanctioning of Rs 25 lakh for each family as relief and two percent reservation in professional and technical colleges throughout the country for the wards of refugees.
He warned that if NC-Congress alliance failed to solve the issue, the refugees will teach them a lesson in coming elections.
He said the Front has also identified 25 Assembly seats where the refugee community has dominance or can influence the results. “We will field our candidates on these seats for ensuring representation to the displaced community and defeat the coalition”, he added.
Mr Chuni said a delegation of refugees will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprise him of step-motherly treatment being meted out to them by the successive State Governments.
Referring to Article 370 he demanded immediate scrapping of this controversial Article. This Article has deprived the displaced persons from PoK as well as West Pak refugees of their rights, he added.
