Taxi plunges into ditch, 8 injured

RAMBAN, June 1: Eight persons were injured when a taxi skidded off the road and fell into a ditch near Sher Bibi area of tehsil Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK22-6567, was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, when the driver lost control over the steering and it fell into a ditch near Sher Bibi area of Banihal, causing grievous injuries to all the occupants.
On getting information, police team from Banihal police station and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the injured were rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, from where three were referred to GMC Jammu and five to Srinagar Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Sanjay Koul, son of Jia Lal Koul of Jammu, his daughter Neelu Koul, Chander Shekhar, son of Sat Pal Sharma of Patoli, Janipur, driver Mohammad Ibrahim, son of Mohammad Ismail, Ashiq Shafi, son of Mohammad Shafi, Akhter Rasool, son of Ghulam Rasool, Imtiyaz Ahmed, son of Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Amin, son of Ghulam Mohammad, all residents of Srinagar.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at police station Banihal and investigation started.
