UDHAMPUR, June 2: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association held a protest in PHE Complex here under the chairmanship of Som Nath, vice president, PHE Employees Association, Jammu province.
Large number of employees drawn from Chenani, Ramnagar, Majalta, Tikri, Jib, Thathi, Krimchi, Mansar, Johnu Barta and other areas of the district participated in the protest and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
While speaking, Som Nath said that the Central Government is funding the State Government sufficiently, but the latter is not releasing the meager wages of the workers.
He said that the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers should understand the message of public, which was seen in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
“Employees and workers are capable to make and break the Government through votes of their own and their relatives”, he added.
He demanded release of pending wages, regularization of workers, Minimum Wages Act, filling up of shortage of staff, change of designation, departmental promotion committee, promotions of qualified staff, sanctioned strength of the department and policy for the department.
He appealed to the employees to remain united to get their issues redressed by the Government.
Vijay Kumar Sharma, general secretary of the association stressed for ‘no work, if no wages’.
Among others present were Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Jagdish Magotra, Krishan Chand, Subash Chander, Makhan Chand, Baldev Raj, Shiv Lal Sharma, Chuni Lal, Ved Parkash, Luxman Singh, Kuldeep Kumar, etc.
