SRINAGAR, June 3: Maintaining that the Government has undertaken a comprehensive program for developing Srinagar city on heritage pattern, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that the same is necessary so that the historicity of this ancient city is preserved.
The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened to discuss various developmental programs undertaken in Srinagar city particularly Zaina Kadal heritage project.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Chief Engineer R&B, Bimal Tiku, MD JKPCC, T R Bhagat, Chief Town Planner, Iftiqar Hakim, RTO Kashmir, Mehmood Ahmad Shah and other senior officers were present.
The Minister directed the officers to speed up the pace of work on the Zaina Kadal heritage project for which funds have already been earmarked. He said the project is essential for preserving the uniqueness of this historic area and it would also go a long way in bringing it on the tourist map which would boost the economic and tourism related activities.
Mr Sagar also directed the RTO Kashmir to provide transport services from Batmaloo to Zaina Kadal via Ali Kadal so that people living in these areas get the requisite facilities and this would also help in boosting the trade activities of the area.
Mr Sagar also directed the Chief Engineer R&B to speed up the acquisition cases of the people whose properties would be acquired at the Qaziyar cut so that appropriate road widening of the area is done. He also asked for undertaking the macadamization of the city roads at an earliest.
