Kishtwar, June 3: Asserting that People’s Democratic Party is a serious contender for power in order to shape the future of State, the party’s chief spokesperson and Member Legislative Council Naeem Akhtar today said that the recently concluded Parliamentary elections should be an eye opener for those who have always believed that power in Jammu and Kashmir was structured around their connections in New Delhi.
Lambasting the ruling coalition alliance, National Conference and Congress for hoodwinking people, Akhtar said that a new dawn of development and prosperity was awaiting and people have to play their decisive role in order to show the doors to those who have always traded their interest in order to cling to power.
Akhtar was addressing one day convention of PDP Youth wing here today. He was accompanied by MLC Syed Asgar Ali, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Youth president, Shahnawaz Hussain, Noor Hussain Malik, Ishtiyaq Hussain Waza and Umar Malik.
He expressed dismay over assertions of the former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and anti-PDP tirade during his election campaign in LS polls saying the statements made by him were not expected. “While we understand the limited options of Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah but the assertions made by Azad were unfortunate that of a leader of his stature and experience”, he said.
He also responded to the allegations of Omar Abdullah, leveled during the LS polls, that PDP fielded candidates in Jammu region in order to help a particular party. “Both Congress and NC had made their own choice to contest elections in coalition and how could they expect us to run a charity mission”. He said that PDP was a political party as that of NC and Congress as such it should not be expected to make its choice at the convenience of others. “The poll results are clear indications that the party has grown up even in Jammu region with considerable support among the masses from all the districts”, he said.
