Srinagar, June 7: Politicians across the political spectrum have condemned the sexual assault on a nurse by Director Health Service Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman and other three health officials and called for stern action against them and transparent inquiry into the case.
Expressing concern over the rapidly degrading moral values in the society, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the molestation of a nurse by the head of Health Department and other officers is an extreme case of moral bankruptcy and a cause of serious concern.
Mirwaiz said it was unfortunate and disturbing that officials of Government Departments were found indulging in acts of immoral behavior with their female sub-ordinates.
He stated that it was unfortunate that the police and administration instead of arresting and punishing the guilty involved in such acts were actually protecting them and providing them security.
He stated that thousands of Kashmiri women were working in Government Departments and such incidents have rendered them vulnerable regarding the safety and security of their dignity and honor.
National Conference has taken strong note of the allegations of sexual assault leveled against some senior officers of the Health Department by a nurse and asked the Government to ensure a free and fair investigation into the matter.
NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu said there could be no tolerance for incidents of this nature as no civilized society could tolerate the harassment of women and that the Government should ensure speedy trial and a transparent probe into this incident.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) spokesman has strongly condemned the attacks on women folk especially female employees by some officers and higher officials.
“If rulers and their police are not able to bring these culprits to justice, people will have every right to think that police as in other cases has and is siding with the influential not the poor and un-influential victims,” he said.
National Front Chairman and Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that the law enforcing agencies register mere cases and hesitate any stern action against the culprits.
Khan said that the shameless incidents of molestation are being encouraged on the state level that is why the culprits are rooming freely under the garb of law.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for Government intervention to counter the crime against women.
Reports about women harassment have become common in a society which has always held its women folk in high esteem, party chief spokesperson said.
“The reports are highly disturbing and these not only call for societal intervention but Government action as well,” he said.
