JAMMU, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm today by various educational institutions and other organizations across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a Multilingual Mahila Kavi Goshthi at KL Saigal Hall, Jammu. The chief guest, Harvinder Kour emphasized the importance of overcoming gender discrimination. Poets from different linguistic backgrounds presented their work, making the event a rich celebration of creativity.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital organized a free gynecology camp on International Women’s Day, benefiting over 200 women. The camp provided consultations and screenings like PAP smear, HB, RBS, and BP tests. Specialists Dr. Geetu Mahajan, Dr. Suksham Sharma, Dr. Shruti Gupta and Dr. Nidhi Raina led the camp. Dr. M.M. Mathavan highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, while Dr. Yashpal Sharma praised the Shrine Board’s support for such initiatives.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) marked International Women’s Day with an interactive session led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal. The session recognized the contributions of women employees from the General Duty Helper and Safai Karamchari cadre.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Department of History at GDC Vijaypur organized a lecture on the theme “Role of Women in the Constituent Assembly,” marking the 75th year of the Constitution and the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma emphasized the importance of gender equality.
The Department of Psychology, GCW Parade, in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, organized a workshop on “Women Empowerment: Social, Psychological and Legal Perspective.” Guided by Dr. Ravinder K. Tickoo, the workshop featured Dr. Savita Nayyar, Director, CWS, who emphasized education’s role in women’s empowerment. Dr. Probhjot Kour, Dr. Saranjeet Kour, Kunzang Angmo and Dr. Manju also participated, with interactive discussions and case studies, highlighting women’s challenges.
Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, celebrated International Women’s Day under the patronage of Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol. The event featured a documentary on Women Empowerment included an interactive discussion and was organized by Prof. Nisha Bhagat, with Prof. Mosmi Raina as event in-charge.
Government Degree College (GDC) Darhal celebrated International Women’s Day with an event chaired by Principal Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, highlighting the importance of women’s rights and empowerment. Organized by the College Literary and Cultural Committee, led by Dr. M. Saleem Wani, the event featured speeches by students and guests, including Sumina.

The Department of Sociology at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized a Poster Making Competition on “Gender Equality” under the guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania, the event featured enthusiastic participation from students. Mehvish Akhter secured first position, followed by Poonam Sharma and Suman Thakur.
Gandhi Memorial College Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day with a vibrant program featuring performances and discussions. The Women Development Cell of GDC RS Pura celebrated International Women’s Day with the theme “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality” under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour and supervision of Dr. Neena Gupta Rohmetra. Over 100 students participated in dance, music and poetry performances.
