MHA-J&K meet on KPs inconclusive

JAMMU, June 10: The high level Union Home Ministry meeting with State Government officers on rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants held in Union Capital remained in-conclusive today.
The meeting, which had to deliberate on Rs 5,820 crore revised package for rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants submitted by State Government in 2013 remained inconclusive and to reach a decision more meetings will be followed in near future, official sources told Excelsior.
The meeting was chaired by Union Home Secretary, Anil Goswami and it was represented by Union Finance Ministry officials, Joint Secretary Home while the J&K Government was represented by Commissioner/Secretary Revenue Department, Vinod Koul and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita. The Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey who had also to be present in the meeting could not attend it due to his preoccupation with some other official work, sources said.
Sources said the meeting discussed various aspects of the package and sought a detailed report from State Government on the financial assistance provided to Kashmiri migrants so far, steps taken for their employment and other welfare measures taken for them since their mass exodus in 1990 including construction of quarters at Jammu and transit accommodations in Kashmir Valley, besides the status of PM’s employment package.
Sources said that the Union Government also sought a report from the State Government officials regarding steps taken for the rehabilitation of migrants so far and response of displaced people in this regard.
Sources said the Union Home Secretary also sought a feed back from State Government on the revised package which is lying with Union Finance Ministry.
The meeting however remained inconclusive and the more discussions will follow in near future. Maintaining that Union Government led by Narendra Modi was showing its seriousness towards the rehabilitation of displaced people from Kashmir Valley, the next meeting may likely be convened in coming week to find out conditionalities and modalities, sources added.
This will be followed by more meetings, sources said, adding before giving final shape to package the Union Home Ministry will also discuss its modalities with the leaders of the displaced Pandits from Valley.
