REASI, Mar 17: An elderly man of 71 years allegedly shot himself dead with a 12-bore rifle in a Tanda forest area of Reasi, here today.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, a resident of Tanda village. He had gone to a nearby forest and was later found dead by villagers with a gunshot injury. A 12-bore gun was found near the body.
Preliminary inquiry suggested that Karim shot himself even as the motive behind his an extreme step could not be immediately ascertained.
Police have registered a case in this connection and started further investigation.
