Forest fire disrupts vehicles’ movement

AKHNOOR, June 12: The movement of vehicles was disrupted for some time late this evening following massive forest fire in  Kalidhar range.
Reports said the fire in Kalidhar Range of Jammu Forest Division started last night and it went on spreading over 3-4 sqkm of area near Chowki Chora during the day today. The fire even reached near main Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway near Chowki Chora.  The police and Forest officials sounded alert and also had to stop movement of vehicles for some time. The fire has sounded alert in the adjoining hamlets  and structures on the road side.
This has also aggravated the surrounding temperature besides causing extensive damages to the green gold and animal species. The Forest field staff was deployed to fight the fire but it could not be controlled till late this evening. A Forest official when contacted claimed that Forest staff with the help of villagers was busy in fighting fire  in the affected area of  Kalidhar but due to dry grass, it is very difficult to contain it.
