LEH, June 12: Week long special handloom exhibition cum workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary to the Ministry of Textile Govt. of India Zohra Chaterji at Tourist Park Balkhang here.
The exhibition was organized by Handloom Department, Leh and sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textile (GoI).
As many as 32 different stalls of Self Help Groups and Cooperative Societies from Jammu, Srinagar and Leh participated in the exhibition which includes 5 registered Cooperative Societies each from Jammu and Kashmir and 4 registered cooperative from Ladakh.
Soon after the inauguration of the expo, the Secretary along with other guests made a full round of the stalls and while interacting with the self help groups and societies, emphasized that their products should be affordable and reputed for trade.
The Ambassador of Czech Republic to India Miloslav Stasek was guest of honour on the occasion.
Add. Development Commissioner Handloom, Ministry of Textile (GoI) M.C Gupta, Director Handloom J&K Tsering Angchok, Executive Councilor Handloom LAHDC, Leh Gurmet Dorje and other district officers were present on the inaugural function.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
