JAMMU, June 15: Volunteers of Tawi Andolan today converged at Tawi Bridge and took a sacred pledge to save Tawi river and other water resources in entire Jammu and fight for preservation of environment, ecology and protection of great traditions and heritage of Jammu.
Puja Archana followed by Tawi Maha Arti led by of Pt. Pritam Sharma and Sardar Darshan Singh was performed eulogizing the majesty of Jammu’s life line.
Addressing the gathering the chief of the Tawi Andolan, Chander Mohan Sharma, advocate reiterated the serious concern on the plight of Tawi and demanded vacation of basin of river Tawi illegally occupied by certain individuals at the behest of a Minister and his colleagues. He said that there is clear cut law and rulings of the Apex Court that grabbing of river land cannot be negotiated at any cost and under the guise of any pretext. He also pointed out that forest of around Mahamaya Temple area which is a part of river Tawi is being encroached in connivance with Revenue authorities in spite of stay order of J&K High Court. Sharma appealed to the people of Jammu to awake and fight for protection of river Tawi and other water resources and these water bodies are at the verge of extinction.
The prominent among the activists who participated included  Lalita Sharma, Ex-Corporater, Dev Raj Sharma, Surinder Sharma, Rajiv Chuni, Shilpi Verma,  Raj Kumari Sharma, Raj Kumar Gupta, Raj Kumar Mehra,  Mandai, Gurdass Sharma, Bal Krishan Koul and others and group of youth leader from University lead by Kanav Sharma, Jatendeep Bali, Prince Gupta, Arnav Khajuria, Rishab Sharma and others.
