JAMMU, June 16:
Amid anti-Government slogans, the BJP legislators today disrupted the function of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and also clashed with National Conference (NC) leaders in Jammu.
Mr Abdullah was the chief guest at the launch of R-ADRP scheme of State Power Development Department at Jammu Club here this evening.
As soon as the Chief Minister, flanked by National Conference Provincial president Devender Singh Rana, reached the stage to light the traditional lamp, BJP MLAs including Sukhnandan Choudhary, Prof Garu Ram, Sham Lal Choudhary, Bharat Bhushan Bodhi and JSM MLA Ashwani Sharma-led by Leader of the Opposition Ashok Khajuria raised slogans against the Omar-led Government.
They said it is a Government function but not a private function of the NC.
The MLAs further said the people of Jammu are suffering due to erratic power supply and continuous power cuts in the prevailing hot weather conditions and the Government has failed to meet the aspirations of the people. “The Government is a total failure,” Mr Khajuria said and added that people are facing acute water and power shortage but the Government is not taking steps to provide relief to the people.
However, NC leader and former MLC Kashmira Singh objected to the allegations levelled by the BJP MLAs and asked them to move out of the hall following which unruly scenes were witnessed in front of the Chief Minister.
The BJP MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary and NC leader Kashmira Singh also had a mild scuffle as they allegedly clashed with each other but NC Provincial President Devendra Singh Rana intervened and pacified the situation.
The BJP leaders later boycott the function amid slogans. Talking to the media at the sidelines of a function, BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria said, “We had raised the issues of the people but were not allowed by the NC leaders and the security personnel.”
He alleged that the Government has completely failed to provide power and water supply besides road facilities for the people of Jammu region.
“People of Jammu are being discriminated,” he said. (AGENCIES)
