SRINAGAR, June 18: Secretary Cooperatives, R. K. Koul reviewed the working of Cooperatives Department here today.
During the deliberations, thrust was laid on re-energizing and revamping of the Cooperative Sector and the participating officers were advised to put in strenuous efforts so that the Cooperative Movement, which had received a setback in the past is put back on rails. Since the district officers are at the cutting edge level in the field, they can play crucial role in effective implementation of the programmes and schemes of the Department.
Mr. Koul said that the need of the hour is to revitalize the Cooperative Sector which has assumed importance as it is an effective tool to eliminate the role of middlemen/brokers and ensure services under various sectors, while maintaining the price line and without compromising on the quality and sustainability.
During the meeting, instructions were issued to the field functionaries to conduct field visits and have interactions with the members and the public at grass root level so that the general public, particularly the educated unemployed youth, are wooed towards the Cooperative sector.
Secretary Cooperatives directed the field functionaries to make vigorous efforts to ensure that the Cooperative Movement becomes the game changer in the socio economic milieu of our State as it has the potential to act as a catalyst to spur economic development.
During the meeting, Registrar Cooperative Societies Basharat Saleem also stressed for revival of such defunct Cooperative Societies as are having valuable assets and motivation among the members.
Among others, Additional Registrar, Kashmir, M. Y. Mir, Dy. Registrar (Counsel) M. A Malik besides all District level officers of the Cooperative Department attended the meeting.
