JAMMU, June 18: National Secular Forum (NSF) today criticized Higher Education Department for proposal regarding establishment of two cluster universities in Jammu and Kashmir.
NSF vice-president Barket Tahir said that carrying out reforms in higher education was a good initiative but the establishment of cluster universities at that juncture was condemnable. “The already established Universities including Jammu University, Central University Jammu, Agriculture University, SMVDU, Baba Gulam Shah Bhadshah University in Jammu region should be first provided sufficient infrastructure before announcements of establishment of more universities”, he said.
Barket Tahir further said that the proposed cluster University would be in GGM Science College, which already has been grappling with space and infrastructure crunch. He appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to shift the proposed University from Jammu to some rural area.
