Banned medicinal herb seized by Forest sleuths

REASI, June 18: A banned rare medicinal herb Nag Chhatri (Trillium govanianum) was seized by a team of Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department in Sumber (Gool) area of Mahore Forest Division on Monday.
The alert sleuths of Forest Department led by Nazir Ahmed Naik, Block Officer, Gool had laid a trap in Sumber village and during the search, the team recovered 11kg of banned rare medicinal herb Nag Chhatri from the possession of Abdul Wahid, Nissar Ahmed, Javed Ahmed, Manzoor, Naseera Begum wife of Abdul Wahid Chopan, all resident of Sumber.
The accused resorted to vandalism and also attacked the party who escaped unhurt. These people have changed their mode of transportation and shift these herbs in very small quantities due to the pressure built up by the Forest and Police departments.
A case was registered under the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act.
The value of seized rare medicinal herb in the international market is around Rs 3.00 lakhs.
