JAMMU, June 23: District Development Commissioner Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu on Monday directed the concerned departments to put in coordinated efforts for ensuring adequate arrangements for ensuing holy month of Ramzan.
He was speaking at a meeting convened to review the arrangements for uninterrupted power and water supply, availability of essential commodities, medicare and other basic facilities.
The meeting was attended by ADC Jammu, K.S. Parihar, SSP Atul Goel, Joint Commissioner JMC, Kapil Sharma, Administrator Aquaf, representatives of Muslim organizations besides senior officers of PHE, PDD, CAPD, Legal Metrology, Fire Services, Police, Traffic and Health Department.
The DDC asked the concerned officers of PHE and PDD to prepare water and power supply schedule to ensure uninterrupted supply of these vital services. The DDC also directed the concerned to ensure cleanliness at all mosques of Jammu city and also arrange water tankers, flood lights for the convenience of the devotees during the month of Ramzan.
He said that special flying squads have been constituted by CAPD and Legal Metrology Departments for market checking to maintain quality of essentials and ensure that the consumers are not overcharged. He asked CAPD to ensure adequate ration supply and the concerned authorities were directed to keep check on quality and rates of mutton, chicken and make sure that the shopkeepers display rate lists at their establishments.
Police and Traffic authorities were asked to ensure proper security and traffic arrangements in the city and Fire Services Department was asked to arrange sufficient number of fire tenders at prominent places to meet any eventuality.
Representatives of Muslim organizations present in the meeting put forth various demands during the meeting to which DDC after giving a patient hearing assured that administration will leave no stone unturned in providing all necessary amenities to people during the holy month of Ramzan and for auspicious Shab-e-Qadar and Jumat-ul-Vida occasions.
The DDC sought cooperation of civil society, NGOs, social and religious organizations to make the Jammu district polythene free besides discouraging use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial establishments.
