UDHAMPUR, June 24: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) today organized a one-day school level awareness programme on ‘Financial Literacy’ at Government Higher Secondary School, Latti in Block Dudu Basantgarh.
The objective of the programme was to generate awareness about ‘Financial Literacy’ among the school children particularly of classes X, XI and XII.
The programme was attended by Dr Maqbool Hussain Malik, principal of the School, Ved Prakash, Branch Manager, JCC Bank, Latti, representative from JK Bank, Latti, staff members of the school and students of classes X, XI and XII.
While speaking on the occasion, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, Manohar Lal, stressed that the objective of the programme is to generate awareness among the school children about Financial Literacy. If children are made aware about financial literacy by way of various financial products, small savings, learning to invest, etc, they can plan their savings and invest them in a proper manner from an early age which can help them in future, he added.
The DDM informed the participants about that the Government of India’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, saying under this scheme most of the subsidies would be given in cash and would be transferred in the bank accounts of the heads of respective families. Therefore, all rural households must have a saving account with the banks, he added.
He also gave an account of the various types of bank accounts such as Savings Bank Accounts, Recurring Deposit, Fixed Deposit and informed about various schemes of NABARD that include KCC, SHGs, Farmers Clubs, etc.
A quiz competition was also organized by the DDM, NABARD for the children and prizes were distributed to the students. Meritorious students of the school were also given away prizes. Students who excelled in sports were also given away the prizes.
