MVD, Taxi Operators Union hold awareness camp

JAMMU, June 25: In connection with ensuing Amarnath Ji Yatra-2014 the Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu in collaboration with All J&K, Taxi Operators Union, Railway Station, Jammu organized awareness-cum-orientation programme for the drivers of Taxi, Mini Buses and Autos.
The objective of the camp was to acquaint the drivers with the importance of courtesy and good behaviour towards the pilgrims.
During the Yatra, lakhs of pilgrims would be coming to Jammu and their reliance on public transport in the city necessitates the need for providing them a welcoming environment and all assistance by all stake holders of transport sector especially taxis, mini buses and auto rickshaws.
DIG, Jammu Shakeel Beig and Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu were present on the occasion. Shakeel Beig advised the drivers to be pleasant and friendly to the pilgrims and ensure that the pilgrims are not inconvenienced in any way. He also assured full cooperation of the police in making the stay of pilgrims in the city comfortable.
A K. Sahu informed the gathering about the good practices being followed by the public transport drivers in different countries of the world and underscored the need of attitudinal change to make the pilgrims and yatris feel a warm welcome in the city.
Other who spoke on the occasion were RTO, Jammu, Arvind Kotwal, ASP Traffic Sunil Raj, Sunil Cannie, Motor Vehicle Inspector Davinder Chaudhary. President of Railway Station, Taxi Operator Union called upon the Government agencies to facilitate the transporter so that they donot face any problem in carrying out their operations. Anil Chopra, Chairman Mini Bus Workers Union assured full cooperation by the drivers to make stay of the yatries in the city memorable and comfortable.
Ravi Mahajan of Prayatan Vikas Sangthan called upon the drivers for putting forth their best for the promotion of tourism especially pilgrim tourism in Jammu region.
