International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed across State

JAMMU, June 26: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed across the State.
National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that there was a need to have a robust partnership between the society, civil-society groups and the Government to fight the menace of drug abuse through a multi-pronged strategy.
In his appeal to the public on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that elders, parents and social support groups have to play the most important role in curbing the drug menace and ensuring the social and economic rehabilitation of those affected by this menace.
NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar has also appealed to the stakeholders of social harmony and welfare on the occasion of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” to unite in the fight against the drug menace.
On the occasion of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Zonal Unit, Jammu, in collaboration with Drug and Food Control Organisation (DFCO), Jammu organised a rally from Mini-Stadium, Parade Ground to MA Stadium to spread awareness regarding drug abuse among the public. The rally was flagged off by Lotika Khajuria, Deputy Controller, DFCO along with Manoj Kumar, Zonal Director NCB and Dr Gurmeet Kour, Registrar, Government Psychiatric Hospital, Jammu.
On the occasion of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, Government Degree College Kishtwar organized a rally, which was flagged off by Prof Shakila Begum, Incharge Principal of the College from College campus. After passing through main market, DC office and Bus Stand, the rally culminated at College campus.
An awareness camp was organized by GRP Jammu in view of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” in the premises of GRP Lines Jammu. During the programme representatives of Railway Department, Taxi operators and officers and officials of GRP and RPF Jammu participated. Dr Mannu Arrora, MD, DPM, Government Medical College Jammu briefed thoroughly to the participants about how to prevent drug abuse. Shiv Kumar Sharma, SP GRP Jammu, Chander Jeet Singh, SDPO Railways Jammu and Parshotam Kumar Mengi, Deputy SP GRP Lines Jammu, also shared their views.
DIG Jammu-Samba Kathua Range Shakeel Ahmed Beig organized Anti Drug Rally at RS Pura. The rally started from Bana Singh Stadium and after passing through main bazar culminated at Nehru Park RS Pura. Among the prominent citizens, Bana Singh, recipient of Paramveer Chakar Sewa Medal and students participated in the rally. Rajinder Sharma SDM RS Pura, Rajnish Pran SP, Randhir Singh SP Hqrs, Parshotam Sharma Deputy Director Prosecution, Davinder Singh SDPO RS Pura and Prashant Mahajan Chief Prosecuting Officer were also present.
Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah under the aegis of the Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) organised a free medical camp at Sub Divisional Hospital, Dandi, Bhadarwah. The camp was inaugurated by Colonel Narendra Kotwal, senior advisor, Medicine and Endocrinology, Army Hospital, R&R, New Delhi who highlighted the significant contributions made by the security forces towards locals for improving the prevailing situation in the State. Commanding Officer of Rashtriya Rilfes located at Bhadarwah was also present. Colonel Narendra Kotwal carried out examination of hormonal diseases and gave expert advice. Besides this, Medical Officers of Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah and Chinta alongwith Doctors from Sub Divisional Hospital, Dandi also provided the much needed specialised medical cover to 153 patients including 76 ladies, 63 gents and 14 children.
On the occasion of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, SP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi inaugurated Drug De-addiction Centre in District Hospital Complex Rajouri in the presence of Mohd Saleem Malik Additional DC Rajouri, Dr Abdul Salam, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Rajouri. A seminar was also organized in which 12 participants spoke about the menace of drugs. Dr Rajeev Sharma, CMO Rajouri, Dr Anees Altaf Nabi, Dy CMO Rajouri, Dr Sumit , Dr Vijay Gupta, other Para Medical staff and members of International Rotary Club were also present.
Drug and Food Control Organization Udhampur in collaboration with Information Department organized a symposium on “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” at Government High School Kulwanta.  Sarpanch of Panchayat Kulwanta, Gulam Mohammad Wani was the chief guest, while Headmistress of the host school, Nishat Sultana presided over the programme. In all 10 students participated in the symposium among which Akshita Thakur was adjudged as best speaker, while Neeru Devi and Mohan Lal secured second and third positions. Consolation prizes were also given to Babli Devi and Shivani Devi.  Doulat Ram, Pritam Singh and Makhan Singh acted as judges.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in coordination with Ek Sath Rang Mandal observed “International Day against Drug Abuse” at Durga Bhawan Janipur, Jammu. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr Tara Singh Charak, former Deputy Director, Health Department in presence of VK Magotra, former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Dr Anju Kumari Dogra, Directorate of Health, Vijay Malla, renowned Writer/Director of IPTA, Ashish Gupta, Drugs Inspector Drugs and Food Control Organization, Raj Kumar Dogra, Internationally known Meditation and Music Therapist. ML Dogra, Chairman, BLSKS threw light on the importance of the day.
JK Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses with support from JKSACS and India HIV/AIDS Alliance organized a rally on the eve of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, which started from Bakshi Nagar and culminated at Talab Tillo. A nukkad natak on “Support Don’t Punish” was also conducted in the Rajpura park by the team of JKSPYM. A public awareness programme was also conducted in the Drop in Centre run by JKSPYM. Pallavi Singh, Project Director, JKSPYM along with members of various NGOs spoke on the occasion.
