Forest Deptt seizes 20 logs of Tunu, one held

JAMMU, June 26: Forest Department seized 20 logs of special class and specified trees ‘Tunu’ and arrested a driver in holy town of Katra.
A spokesman said that, on specific inputs, the sleuths of Forest Department intercepted a tractor trolley bearing registration number JK20-5203 carrying logs of special class and specified trees ‘Tunu’ near Asia crossing in tehsil Katra.
During checking, the sleuths seized 20 logs of special class and specified trees ‘Tunu’, which the driver was carrying without permission towards Katra.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Sansar Chand, son of Prem Chand of Aghar Jitto, district Reasi was arrested.
During investigation, it came to fore that the seized logs belongs to Noor Mohammad, son of Rahim Baksh of Pamote, Maggal Katra, who was called up for investigation.
The logs were seized as per Section 26 and 27 for violation of Section15 and 16 of J&K Forest Act 1987 (1930 AD).
Range Officer Katra Munish Gupta said that the case would be presented before the DFO Reasi Dr Sayeed Nadeem Hussain to decide whether to realize fine only from the offenders or to confiscate wooden logs along with trolley as per laws, after going through the graveness of committed crime.
The forest team led by Range Officer Katra Munish Gupta, Parshotam Kesar, incharge Timber Sale Depot Katra, Sudarshan Singh and Forest guards Nishant Jandyal and Susheel Sharma seized the ‘Tunu’ logs and arrested the driver under the overall supervision of DFO Reasi Dr Sayeed Nadeem Hussain.
