Civil Society presents memorandum to Union Tourism Minister

JAMMU, June 26: A deputation of Civil Society met Sripad Nayak, Union Minister for Tourism, Government of India and presented a memorandum in connection with development of tourism in Jammu region particularly related to environmental considerations.
While speaking, President of the association, Gen Goverdhan raised issues including delay in renovation of Mubarak Mandi and ropeway to Bahu Fort and Tawi Lake.
He suggested development of Ranjit Sagar Lake in Bhaderwah for water sports and Jhajjar Kotli Lake as tourist destination besides revamping of Kandi ponds of the Shivaliks into herbal gardens to sustain ecology and economy of the region.
Gen Goverdhan apprised him about the water problems of the region particularly in the fast denuding Shivaliks and the urgency to take up water harvesting systems to re-green the Shivaliks to sustain the economy of the region and also to cater for the 1.25 crore pilgrim tourists to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath passing through the Shivaliks.
