JAMMU, June 27: Suman Gupta, Jammu’ s well known contemporary artist’s paintings have been included amongst the selected artists for a major group show at Helsinki in Finland.
The prestigious international exhibition titled “Aavikon Tuoksua Kietaalla” (Deserts smell) shall open for three weeks at “Galleria Fogga” in Helsinki, Finland on July 1, 2014. Suman Gupta is the lone participants from India amongst the 12 artists from Finland and other European countries that has been handpicked from all the major disciplines of contemporary art and have created special art works for this prestigious show.
He shall be displaying three of his recent works titled “The Night Bath” Acrylic on canvas “Fish and the Bird” and “Night Halt” both dry brush on paper.
Suman Gupta’s canvasses and dry brush become evocative renditions of the artist’s preoccupations with the surreal realities of a lived idiom. The canvas speaks in the language of stark surrealism, but it is the landscape with the figure in “Fish and the Bird” that becomes the hallmark of his reflective handling of virtuoso technique in symbolism.
The quality of quietude in these works is a rippled silence that comes from within, a manifestation of the inward journey that seeks to bring in an order of timelessness to the studied portal of observations. The show closes on July 20, 2014.
It may also be mentioned that Suman Gupta has been offered a one man show by a leading gallery in Pittsburgh, USA which shall be opening on September 1, 2014.
