CBI arrests BSNL General Manager for allegedly taking bribe

NEW DELHI, June 28: A General Manager at BSNL’s Karnal unit was arrested by CBI for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs two lakhs for favouring an employee in departmental inquiry.

“A case was registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the General Manager (Telecom), Karnal on the allegations of demanding bribe of Rs three lakhs from the complainant,” CBI spokesperson said.

The official said the bribe was meant for favouring the complainant, who was serving as a Junior Telecom Officer at BSNL Karnal, in a departmental enquiry against him.

“CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs two lakhs from the complainant,” he said.

Searches were carried out at the official residence of the accused, a 1981 batch officer of Indian Telecom Services, at Karnal and at his house in New Delhi.

A cash to the tune of Rs 6.50 Lakhs, gold jewellery and documents related to property and other investments were recovered,” the official said. (PTI)
