Sugar eases on adequate supply

NEW DELHI, July 3: Sugar prices eased at the wholesale market today on reduced offtake by bulk consumers and retailers against pick-up in supplies from millers.

Traders said besides adequate stocks in the market following increased supplies from mills, subdued demand from bulk consumers and retailers, weighed on the sweetener prices.

Tracking wholesale market, sugar prices in the retail market also showed a downward trend, they said.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 eased to Rs 34.40-35.70 and Rs 34.30-36.00 against last close of Rs 34.80-36.50 and Rs 34.50-36.25 per kg, respectively.

Similarly, sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 weakened to Rs 32.60-33.90 and Rs 32.40 and Rs 33.90 from previous levels of Rs 32.70-34.50 and Rs 32.50-34.10 per kg, respectively.

In the mill gate section, Mawana, Kinnoni and Asmoli also traded lower at Rs 33.30, Rs 33.70 and Rs 33.50 as compared to previous levels of Rs 33.60,Rs 34.50 and Rs 33.90 per kg, respectively.

Dorala, Budhana and Thanabhavan slipped to Rs 33.45, Rs 33.20 and Rs 33.10 against last close of Rs 33.70, Rs 33.70 and Rs 33.60 per kg, respectively.

In the retail market, sugar prices were down by 50 paise to Rs 38.50-39.50 per kg.
