Need to be vigilant

Three cheers to the personnel of Central Reserve Police for being alert at their posts. They have averted a would-be disaster which could have claimed many innocent lives. Reports are that militants had placed IED close to the strategic Jawahar Tunnel to its south. Alert security personnel detected it and took all precautionary measures to defuse the device. This incident has to be taken into view along with the attack on military personnel in Pampore last week. It clearly shows that militants are active even though underground and want to strike whenever they find an opportunity. In these circumstances there is no question of security forces or the police lowering the guard.
Two decades of continued militancy has given good ideas to security forces of the tactics of militants how, when and where they can strike. They are usually looking for strategic places or in crowds because striking at these places can cause maximum damage. Now the time has come when the security forces are making good use of the experience they have gained. CRP personnel have shown exceptional alacrity in detecting IED at a sensitive place, which, if not detected and defused, would have given an opportunity to the militants to cause big damage. Militants know that this is the season for the pilgrims to the cave of Swami Amarnathji and thousands of yatris are on the move along the National Highway. If they are successful in causing some damage to the yatris and thus obstructing the pilgrimage, it will have wide repercussions throughout the country and the Government will be faced with critical situation. Given their history, the militants are usually in search of such occasions and feel happy to disrupt normal flow of life. There is every possibility that the militants will make more efforts because the pilgrimage will terminate on August 2. If they are able to strike according to their choosing, they will be scoring a point. This places heavy responsibility on the shoulders of our security forces.
We are aware that large numbers of militants are waiting on the other side of the border to sneak in. Their infiltration is made very hazardous by security forces. Still they can manage infiltrating through odd places along the border. In desperation, militants are capable of doing big mischief. True they are on the run but caught between the devil and the deep sea, yet they can try to strike in a big way. We are confident that our security forces are fully prepared and capable of thwarting their nefarious designs. The civil society is also expected to play its role in being vigilant.  Hard pressed by the army, the infiltrators are trying to sneak through international border and then move towards the targeted places deep inside the state for launching subversion. The nation is thankful to our security forces for denying the enemy any chance of carrying forward its subversive agenda.
